Session Description
South Korea has emerged as a leading manufacturing economy, positioned to thrive in the era of the “Fourth Industrial Revolution” (also known as “Industry 4.0”). This revolution involves the convergence of digital technologies and intelligent manufacturing operations. Manufacturing is a cornerstone of the Korean economy, contributing to approximately one quarter of GDP and driving 90% of exports. Five years ago, the Korean government’s “Manufacturing Renaissance Vision” initiative aimed to revitalize the industry through innovation, including smart and eco-friendly technologies. Since then, the industry has adapted to global shifts while maintaining its competitive edge.
South Korea faces many of the same challenges as other parts of the world. Labour costs are rising while capital investment into the manufacturing base is declining, and enterprises are looking to reduce labour costs in non-core areas while improving productivity in core areas.
In this session, we will focus on how mobile technologies play a key role in ensuring the resilience and success of the manufacturing and industrial sector in South Korea and beyond. We will hear how manufacturing and heavy industry is embracing new, disruptive technologies to remain competitive, and technologies like 5G, IIoT platforms, and AI are driving this change.
