Dr. Alex Jinsung Choi, a prominent figure in the mobile telecommunications industry, brings over 30 years of experience to the field. He served as Group CTO at Deutsche Telekom AG, later leading T-Labs for several years. He played a pivotal role as the founding chair of the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) and served as Chair of the O-RAN Alliance, driving the evolution of radio access networks toward open and intelligent frameworks.
Dr. Choi's career in leadership began at LG Electronics, where he headed the Mobile Core Technology Lab and the Next Generation Telecommunications Lab. He then joined SK Telecom in South Korea as CTO and Head of R&D, where he led groundbreaking work in 5G, AI/ML, cloud solutions, and autonomous networks.
Currently, Dr. Choi is with SoftBank's Research Institute of Advanced Technology, continuing to drive innovation at the intersection of AI, mobile technology, and network architecture. In 2024, he was appointed Chair of the AI RAN Alliance, furthering his influence in the industry by shaping the integration of AI in radio access networks. His strategic vision is centered on advancing the technology landscape, enhancing both business and consumer experiences, and guiding the industry toward a more connected and intelligent future.
Dr. Choi holds a Ph.D. in Mobile Networks from the University of Southern California (USC), where he conducted pioneering research in radio resource management, applying game theory and reinforcement learning. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Control and Instrument Engineering from Seoul National University, where he gained early experience in microprocessor design and computer control systems.
