Speaker Bio

Jacob Groote has a long track record in the Telco industry. After receiving his PhD in Physics in 1990 he joined KPN Research. Innovative new developments are a red line through his career. He investigated AI and customer centricity in telco’s in the early days at the research institute.


Jacob always stayed within KPN however in several different roles. From setting up new business units, to new network and IT architectures that drive transformation. His focus on new and innovative technologies is always connected to his skills to implement them on small and large scale. Jacob rolled out the 4G network for KPN right after the acquisition of the spectrum. He also lead the commercial introduction of 5G services, where he focused on the application of the technology through the eyes of a customer and promoted in 6 5G Field Labs.


Jacob used his network and technology knowledge also in more commercial roles in KPN’s B2B market as head of product management. With the many years of experience in architecture, operations and marketing, he is now part of KPN’s Corporate Strategy team, preparing KPN for new services and new markets based on the latest technologies.


Jacob is well known in industrial committees as he participated in board groups like NGMN and the GSMA Technology group. He is currently member of the GSMA Strategy group and is chairing the GSMA Connected Manufacturing and Production community.


Specific topics that always attract his attention are customer benefits, value creation, operations, outsourcing, converging of IT and network architectures, integration of fixed and mobile network architectures, change management and quality management.


Jacob is married and has two kids studying at university.
