Speaker Bio
Tae Hyung Kim (PhD/Mr) is a distinguished development economist with extensive experience in the United Nations system. Currently serving as the Chief of the ICT and Development Section at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), he is renowned for driving analytical research, developing innovative strategies, and implementing programs to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs). His expertise spans ICT and digital transformation, resource management, disaster risk management, and urban infrastructure development.
As Chief of the ICT and Development Section at UN ESCAP, he leads initiatives such as the Asia-Pacific Digital Ministerial Conference and the publication of the biennial Asia-Pacific Digital Transformation Report (ESCAP flagship report). He oversees the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway Platform (Asia-Pacific ICT network) and various projects that leverage digital technologies for sustainable development in the region.
Previously, he was the Director of the Private Sector Development Programme at the Colombo Plan Secretariat (2004-2006), where he led efforts to foster private sector growth. From 1994 to 2004, he managed international development projects focused on economic development and capacity building as a project manager at the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
He holds a degree in International Commerce under the Economics category.
